RIP Hellboy

23 Aug

Poor, poor Hellboy, your time with us was short but sweet.    We  kept you with all the creature comforts that a millipede could wish for:  you had all the rotting vegetation you could get your mandibles wrapped around, and a potato bug for company.  Other than maybe being outdoors where you rightfully belonged, what more could have been asked for?  Sigh…

Our friend  passed away at an undetermined age, he was roughly 18 segments long so he could have been young or old, we can’t rightly tell.  He was rather slow-moving, so we can’t say exactly when he passed either.  He was still feebly waving one antennae  last night, but it could have been a reflex.  Poking him repeatedly with a stick probably didn’t help.

Hellboy was with us for a few short weeks, and is survived by a short, young boy, who will miss him dearly.  Funeral arrangements are in the development phase, and change frequently.  I have yet to tell said boy that Hellboy is already back in the forest, becoming one with nature yet again.

This cracked me up! Especially the mini tombstone. Poor Hellboy. Hopefully there’s a portion of Heaven for millipedes.

Oh, I used to run a small Bug Hospital out of a cardboard dollhouse that my stepmother got with Kool-Aid proofs of purchase. I would find injured bugs (okay fine, I would injure them…) and they each got their own room with leaf beds and bottle cap drinking troughs. If only my services were still available during Hellboy’s time of need!
