I have the day off!  It’s only one day, but I’m a happy camper.  The sun just managed to burn the morning fog away, I’m on the couch sipping tea in my jammies, James is next to me watching Speed Racer (the cartoon, not the freaky movie) and it is almost 11am.  It doesn’t really get much better, considering that the house is full of good smells.   I started my day off doing one of my favorite things, baking bread.

The loaf on the left is a white sourdough.  I use my own sourdough starter, that I’ve been lovingly nursing along since I started baking about a year ago.  I use the no knead method featured over on Breadtopia.   Baking no knead bread is just as easy as it sounds, it just takes a little planning because the rise time is so long- 18 hours.  But the bread turns out great every time, with very little effort.

The flat bread on the right is garlic naan, it took a little more effort.  Kneading is required and the dough has to be rolled out before baking.  I went super authentic and grilled it on the barbeque.  I had to finish half the batch in the oven because I ran out of propane.  Picking half-cooked naan off the grill wasn’t exactly what I had in mind.  Ultimately I think I over cooked the naan, but it looks pretty and tastes awesome with sun-dried tomato tampenade spread.   I found the recipe over on Recipe Zaar.

James wants me to join him in yelling “knock it off,  just settle down” at the bad guys in Speed Racer.

What are you up to on this lovely Friday?

I am definitely going to have to check out that sourdough bread recipe. That loaf is GORGEOUS! I’m glad you made the most of your day off. 🙂
